To celebrate the release of his new solo album #willpower, Will.i.am promoted a livestream hangout yesterday evening (23) with Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Scherzinger and Jimmy Lovine.
Using the Google+ Hangout platform, the chat began promptly at 16.15 PST. Britney Spears was the first one to get to chat and answer questions. The pop star spoke about her and Will.i.am’s collaboration, their song “Scream & Shout” and how excited she was to be part of his project.
Then, the interviewer called Nicole to talk about her work with the rapper. Asked how she was doing, Nicole all smiles said she was having a party in the room by herself at the hotel in Beverly Hills.
The interviewer pointed out that Nicole and Will make a pretty good duo to which Will replied saying they’ve been working together for years, as Nicole commented: “He’s been working on the EP of my life. We know each other for years… I started off stalking Will, actually, in the Black Eyed Peas”.
Will said he met Nicole in 2001, when she was a member of “Eden’s Crush” and said he was like “that girl is so freaking fresh”, the rapper also was keen to mention that he has worked with a lot of people, “but Nicole is one of the craziest people I have ever worked with”.
When asked about working with the rapper, before Nicole getting a chance to answer, Will revealed Nicole should be a member of the Black Eyed Peas, but her boyfriend at that time said no. And also pointed out that he helped her to get into the Pussycat Dolls.
“One day she calls me up and is like, ‘Will, I want to do this audition. Can you get me in?’. So I was like, ‘Yo Jimmy I know this girl that will be dope for the Pussycat Dolls. So I introduced him to her and that’s how she got into the group.” Jimmy Lovine is the Interscope boss.
And added, “Me and Nicole , it’s like no matter what… Everything I’ve been through in my career, she’s been there and everything she’s been through in her career, I’ve been there. And I don’t know anybody that sings like her. She can do anything!”
After followed banter between them, the interviewer asked if that’s how they work and if they manage to get work done while he replied “Me and Nicole are like this… ‘Nicole I need you to go to the studio and record this one part and she’s like ‘ok, what is it?’ and I’m like ‘it’s like this’ and she makes it all freaking ‘fantabulously’ better”, adding that he needs to tell her when to stop, because she always wants to record her part again to which she replied being perfectionist. Nicole also said “I feel that when I’m with Will in the studio we’re like a bunch of kids in the playground!”. How cool this must be!
Far Away From Home, song that features Nicole, was written by Will based on people’s dreams. Nicole mentioned the melody, saying it’s fun which Will mockingly added, “she was like ‘I like this! This is kind of Mary Poppins’.”, when he first played the melody to her. “Smile Mona Lisa”, on the other hand, was revealed to be Will’s own interpretation of Disney, as odd as it may sound.
“And he said ‘so basically we’re gonna be singing vintage Italian opera’ and I was like ‘alright! Cool. Let’s do it!’.”, said Nicole in a serious face but playful tone.
Nicole’s participation might’ve lasted about 15 minutes, being the longest out of them. #willpower is now available. You can also purchase “Far Away From Home” and “Smile Mona Lisa” on iTunes.
